Craft: Fruits of the Spirit

Christ is risen!!

Not sure how you all are doing, but I am seriously missing the rhythm of Great Lent and Holy Week. I really miss the excuse to watch services everyday and the anticipation leading up to Pascha. On Bright Tuesday I found myself rewatching Bright Mondays service. But that just didn't seem authentic. And then I fell right off the bandwagon and aside from a boisterous singing of "Christ is Risen" before every meal and a few of the goodies from our Easter baskets it all seems so long ago.

I will also admit there was a small part of me that thought perhaps Pascha would ring in the end of this pandemic. I know I'm a doctor, but I know that Christ's death caused the Earth to quake and the sky to darken and heaven knows it would take a massive miracle to get most people to have faith these days. At any rate, here we are, and I know there's a deeper lesson to learn that will take more time and patience.

So speaking of the virtues we all need to cultivate right now... We were inspired to this idea by some neighbors who painted rocks and put them out cheerfully in front of their home on the route that we take for our neighborhood walk. What we need now more than ever is to remember and cultivate the fruits of the Holy Spirit. So many of these fruits are virtues that our secular society could also appreciate right now. Patience. Hope. Love. Joy. Kindness.

So the craft really is just as simple as painting rocks. We just used rocks we found around our garden or we uncovered as we are building a new raised bed. I had some old acrylic paints in the basement and we all sat out in the sun one day and painted. My kids mostly just painted the background of the rocks and I painted on the words. But the photo here is of my almost two-year-old, so you really can include even the littlest.

The rocks are out in front of our house now right along the path that so many people walk by daily and I hope that they bring some peace and perspective to some of the folks that see them. I know they do that for me. How have you found ways to inspire those near you and have your kids be in on the action?

With love in Christ,

Sasha
